JourneyKeep Wellness App for Teen Tech Burnout
As tech burnout and social media fatigue rise among teens, a new survey reveals that young people are not only aware of the problem but are ready to take action.
In an effort to encourage his peers to take control of their screen time, Garner Hall, teen creator of Brain Nourishment, launched new mobile app, JourneyKeep.
The JourneyKeep App launch coincides with World Mental Health Day coming up on October 10, reminding people of the importance of prioritizing their mental wellbeing, and emphasizing JourneyKeep’s mission of supporting healthier digital habits in an always-connected world.
Brain Nourishment’s Survey
In a new survey of Brain Nourishment followers, Hall found a deep desire from his peers to build healthier screen habits.
Brain Nourishment’s recent survey also reflected:
- 92.7% admit they spend longer on their phones than intended
- 58.3% say social media makes it harder to concentrate on books and movies
- 59.7% say social media has made them connect less with others in person
- 51.7% use their phones to avoid eye contact in social situations
- When asked if they feel better after they spend time on social media, 71.4% of respondents disagreed.
The survey echoes the recent data from a July Pew Research Center survey that showed almost half (48%) of teens say social media have a mostly negative effect on people their age, and 45% of teens said they spend too much time on social media.
JourneyKeep App
To help turn intention with action, JourneyKeep offers a single, daily “sidequest” to every user worldwide.
The quests are simple, real-world activities that encourage users to engage in the world around them – ranging from an adventurous prompt like “Be a tourist in your own city,” to something more reflective and home-based like “Watch the sunrise or sunset without distractions.”
The goal of the app is to provide a simple, daily anchor that helps those seeking to replace doomscrolling with real experiences.
While the initial app experience is built for solo users, Hall envisions future releases to incorporate a social component that will allow friends to share their journeys with one another and create a supportive community.
With school back in session and the younger generation searching for ways to overcome digital distractions, Garner is determined to provide the tools they need to combat screen addiction, one “sidequest" at a time.
JourneyKeep app is available now on the App Store for iOS devices and on Google Play for Android devices.
