We knew it was time for a movie night after receiving A Minecraft Movie package from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.

A Minecraft Movie is full of humor and fun video game references, which is great for fans of the video game.


We quickly opened out package, which included A Minecraft Movie items

Of course we set up the popcorn bucket, had a min sword fight while making the popcorn, then grabbed the blanket and settled on the couch for movie night.


Overall we enjoyed A Minecraft Movie since it was a funny easy watch. While as Minecraft fans we expected to see a bit more on theme storylines, there was fun scenes with the characters and actions that come from the video game. So families won't mind the blend in with the "regular" movie scenes.

We also enjoyed watching Jack Black play against the other actors. His energy took things to another level and add something special overall to A Minecraft Movie.

My Review

I did see Twisters when it was in theaters and enjoyed it so much. So I was excited to be gifted a digital copy of the film.

I enjoyed watching the film and all the exciting tornado scenes again, from the comfort and safety of my home! Each scene is still action packed with great real and visual effects.

And now I get to watch and discover more thrilling things I missed while watching it in theaters.


I also get to re-watch some of the educational parts, after doing some research. I learned so much about tornados and weather mapping from this film!

Getting to watch the gag reel and deleted scenes was a bonus that makes owning the film a perk.

Just before the release of Twisters movie in theaters on July 19, I attended a special screening and saw the cast stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos along with Director Lee Isaac Chung.

As if that wasn't exciting enough, before I entered the theater I experienced the Twisters wind Tunnel, which was super fun!

And then was gifted a Kodak Printomatic Camera with film and a Glenn Powell T-shirt to get me ready for any summer adventure.

Once inside the theater it wasn't long before the Director and cast came in to share about filming Twisters.


Daisy Edgar-Jones: This is such a kind of nostalgic film. When you watch, it feels like the feeling I had when I watched films, when I was little. You know, it's a massive Blockbuster to be enjoyed in the big cinemas. On the big screen together.

So just thank you so much for being here. We're so excited to share to the world.

Glen Powell: So we shot this movie in Oklahoma, in Tornado Alley, in tornado season. Which I wouldn't advise, it's quite dangerous.

But we made this with a lot of real storm chasers. A lot of real meteorologists. So I want to give a shout out all of the Storm Chasers watching for Oklahoma. We made this with a lot of really wonderful people.

This film is a blast watch, but it was a real blast to shoot. I hope everyone enjoys.

And then it was time to watch the movie!

My Review

From the first scene Twisters put you right into the heart of the story and a tornado! There's lots of action, fun background music, a bit of humor and good storytelling that not boring.

You get to learn a lot about tornados and the people who track and study them to keep communities safe. The movie has amazing tornados scenes that are so well done, I wasn't sure what wasn't real. I expected the wind to start blowing around in the theater. So thrilling!

Twisters is a great summer movie that entertains and even educates. High recommend.

Viggo Mortensen’s film The Dead Don’t Hurt is now in theaters nationwide, and offers a touching look at a couple trying to make a new life in the western U.S. frontier during the 1860s.

My Review

I screened the film "The Dead Don’t Hurt" a few weeks ago and enjoyed the dry humor, emotional drama and subtle thoughtfulness of the main storyline. Usually western movies are all about gun battles and in town drama.

And yes while "The Dead Don’t Hurt" does include that, it also offers a partially led women's story of rebellion, adventure and finding love in your own way.

The love story of Vivienne (Vicky Krieps) and Holger (Viggo Mortensen) is both quirky but also hardy. They both grow their love against harsh odds and make something truly special. It's about making compromises to make their life as a couple work.

Surprisingly at times without a lot of talking.

Ironically, I enjoyed that the film has moments with unspoken dialogue. Viewers can piece together the intent of the character feelings based on their actions and the scenery.

The scenery itself is also a character in "The Dead Don’t Hurt". You see wide open background that put you in the mindset of what it was like in the early day.

All these different and elements make's "The Dead Don’t Hurt" an unique and satisfying film to watch, even as a western.

Now that “Arthur the King” is in theaters, I hope families take a chance and see it. The films offers a feel good inspirational human experience, along with heartwarming doggie moments.

I had the chance to screen it and enjoyed the peek into Michael Light (Mark Wahlberg) struggle to achieve his goals, along with a look at what goes into being a pro adventure racer.

From training to step by step over the different courses, the film gives viewers a real experience of what Michael and his team had to face. Which included what to do with a stray dog who crosses their path.

From the first meeting, viewers can feel the bond form between Michael and Arthur the dog and how affects the team. Arthur really completes the team and becomes the focus of the film, which leaves viewers with an understanding that winning in life is more then crossing the finish line.

The saga continues now that Dune: Part Two is in theaters. To fully experience all the drama during the opening weekend, I went to a Dolby Cinema for the perks of Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and those comfy reclining seats!

Note: I received a gift card so I can see the movie. However any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

As part of my preparation to see Dune: Part Two, I took along a scarf to cos-play while watching the characters on screen. Seems everyone on screen was wrapped up! So I fit right in!



I also made sure to get my snacks before going inside the theatre because I didn't want to come out and miss anything!

Just a fun FYI, AMC Theaters sells these limited-edition Sandworm Popcorn Bucket.


Once inside, the Dolby Cinema took my movie viewing experience up a notch.

While I always enjoy the vivid colors of Dolby Vision with the immersive sound of Dolby Atmos for movies with lots of actions, this time DUNE gave me a softer but still impactful experience.

Sandworms

Lets be honest, we all want to see those worms on screen. And Dolby Cinema brought those sandworms vividly into view. You can see the worms scale and how they move in and out of the sand.

Seeing those sandworms on screen is better then anything you imagined. Very well done.

The Look & Sound of Arrakis

A large part of the Dune: Part Two is set in the desert where everything is similar colored and sorta quiet, because....sandworms....and sand.

But I could clearly see during the sandy scene and in rich colors with details. I was truly surprised how Dolby Vision made those moments glow when it's just sand next to sand.

But watching those scenes felt intimated during close up scene and then vast and epic during the wide angles.

With Dolby Vision's remarkable color range, you get engulfed in the world of Arrakis as its sprawling deserts come to life with vivid, lifelike colors.

Watch out for the brilliance of explosions and the vastness of the desert landscape.

The sounds were also softer...again sand life... but still I clearly heard the sand shift when the characters moved around or when the sandworms came up from the same. So amazing!

With Dolby Atmos, sound can be precisely placed anywhere in the cinema, even overhead, creating an immersive soundscape that sounds more like real life.

Pay attention to the sound of an Ornithopter flying overhead or the sound of a weapon whizzing past your ears.

Now that the WONKA film has released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD, I was able to interview Calah Lane, who plays Noodle, and get the movie details!

In WONKA Noodle is described by Paul King (Director / Screen and Story Writer) as "a wise old head on a young person’s shoulders." While Calah plays her role well, in real life she's vibrant and a fun interview.

So I wanted to ask her about going on her own personal quest like Wonka did.

Going on a Personal Quest

Calah Lane: Oh, on a quest. What would it be for? I would love to get a quest to find something. I love to go on a scavenger hunt.

Probably something like that, where I'd find the big prize at the end, like the chest of gold, at the end of the rainbow, probably something like that.

Enjoying Chocolate on Set

Calah Lane: I definitely liked all the chocolates. The only one that I really got chance to eat, was the silver lining. That's the one that I ate over and over again. It's so good.

But there was also a teacup, at the end of the song a world of your own, me and Timmy are eating like a teacup and drinking out of it. But it's like crazy because that taste so good also.

Calah Lane: And we had a Chocolatier on set. She made all the chocolate, she like handcrafted them. They tasted absolutely incredible. And they looked beautiful too.

Becoming Her Noodle Character

Calah Lane: I definitely love how strong she is. She's a very strong character and she knows what she wants. I feel like her and Willie's relationship is really cool because she's like, the parent.

She's like, okay, you do this, you do that and Wonka is kind like the child. She teaches him how to read and all of that stuff. I definitely like that about her and I loved playing her.

Calah Lane: It was very cool being an original character. I had that flexibility, so I got to make it my own.

To get me into that mindset, I watched Annie a couple times, and that's actually one of my favorite movies also. So I kind of got to like feel how it felt and all that.

Training for Musical Scenes

Calah Lane: We first started off with 10 weeks of no filming, just rehearsing. I didn't have a lot of dancing to do, but I did have a lot of singing to do, definitely. So, I would do a bunch of vocal things all the time.

And I used to be kind of nervous, because I was singing. I had never done anything this big before. But I remember walking into the rehearsal rooms and seeing everybody rehearse their numbers and it's just so cool to see.

Peek into Noodle's Future

Calah Lane: Definitely gonna have a lot of books. She's a big fan of books, she's definitely gonna be reading.

She's definitely not going to be in those clothes anymore. She definitely gonna have better clothes. Some better clothes, better hairstyle. I mean, she's gonna have it all.

I think we'll see an older version of her and a more sophisticated version. She's now got what she's been wanting for a long time. So she's happy now.

My Review

The Gran Turismo film offers so much for families looking for a feel good movie.

The film does a great job of taking viewers through the journey of Jann Mardenborough from gamer to race car driver. We see Jann's struggle to be taken seriously in the racing worlds, and to be more confident in his skills.

We really liked that the film showed the emotions and process (internal and external) that happens while pursing your dreams.

Another exciting part of the film is it shows how gaming and technology can be used in real life. The special effects of immersive gaming was awesome to see. There's one scene where they literally break the car apart that all gamers and techies will love.

Gran Turismo checks all the boxes of a top rated inspiring movie for families!

My Review

Based on Benjamin Alire Sáenz’s YA novel, the film "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe" centers on the friendship between two Mexican-American teenagers who explore a new, unusual friendship.

Overall the movie is a sweet peek into being inspired by a friendship to discover yourself and a different form of love. While there is the usual teen angst and family dynamics, how both Aristotle and Dante deal with overcoming and figuring out feelings and actions during this stage of their life, is something everyone can relate to. And be touched by.

A good movie choice for families who want to watch something different but still heartfelt.

SYNOPSIS

Dive into the turbulent waters of high school with this heartwarming action comedy about a shy teenager who discovers that she’s part of a legendary royal lineage of mythical sea krakens and that her destiny, in the depths of the oceans, is bigger than she ever dreamed.

Learning to be an all-powerful sea creature while hiding among humans is hard enough for Ruby, but to make matters worse, her super popular new bestie, Chelsea, is secretly a mermaid!

Mermaids have been battling the Krakens for eons to rule the ocean, but Chelsea has come to land to finally put an end to that conflict. However, when Chelsea double-crosses her, Ruby will ultimately need to embrace who she is and GO BIG to protect those she loves most.

Soul Doctor, the Broadway movie-musical about the ‘rock star’ Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, and his relationship with music and civil rights icon Dr. Nina Simone, has a one night Fathom Events screenings in over 600 select theaters on June 13.

Note: I was invited as media for screening and cast interview. However any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

Take Away Message of Soul Doctor

Danny Wise We really wanted to see more singing and harmony around this country rather than shouting and screaming. And that's really what this movie is about. People think of a movie as a visual experience, this is really an atmosphere at movie in the highest sense of the word.

Lisa Simone Oh, there are quite a few. Starting with joy inspiration, the power of community and coming together. And the fact that so many walls that we erect, whether it's through our vision, how we look different, how we sound different, different backgrounds.

Underneath, all of that there's so much of the sameness, that we all share.

Lisa Simone I believe that's one of the biggest connections that my mother Dr. Nina Simone and Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach had in common. Within their differences there was such a sameness that they recognized in each other.

They influenced each other, inspired each other and they both went on to be prolific presences in the world, whose influence continues to touch the masses today.

How Stage Production Differs from Film

Danny Wise It's not, in the experience. We're very proud and happy, that it's a minimalist production and therefore, you really don't feel this divide of 100 million dollars of special effects coming at you.

You feel like you're the story taking place in the center. Shlomo Carlebach for most of his career would really perform from the front of the stage, and not on the stage. It was a theater in the round.

We presented it as a theater in the round, and if it feels like a theater in the round. And the audience feels safe, part of it and spontaneously part of the theatrical production.

Significance of Releasing Soul Doctor Now

Lisa Simone It's time. There's no better time than the present. Everything happens when it's supposed to. We're here for a reason.

Now the time has come, people perhaps were more ready. Our community is ready,our world is ready, we're ready. The production is ready. And it's being born, in a manner that's shining the light upon it. On a platform that cannot be ignored.

Dari Carlebach Our hearts have been broken over and over again. To let the light in and we're now at a place in our history, where we've all broken open so many times, but all we can do is rise in song.

And build those broken places with harmony. And our job, in this generation, is to create the most infinite endless amount of harmony in ourselves, between our communities, between all of humankind.

And the story allows us to create harmonies in unexpected ways, and it uplifts and brings a whole new way of seeing the world.

The film of Soul Doctor opens on the 10th anniversary of its Broadway premiere.

Soul Doctor tells the story of the beloved yet controversial father of popular Jewish music, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. A modern-day troubadour, Shlomo ignited the spirit of millions around the world with his soul-stirring melodies, transformative storytelling, and boundless love.

After his childhood escape from Nazi Germany, the young Rabbi formed an unlikely friendship with musical icon and pioneer, Nina Simone, who introduced him to Soul and Gospel music, and a Jewish music and cultural revival was born.

Fusing his roots with his new inspiration, Shlomo created a revolutionary musical sound, writing songs which continue to be the main body of Jewish musical standards.

The “Jewish Gospel/Soul” experience he introduced to the synagogue worship remains the most popular of services across all denominations of Jewish practice.

Soul Doctor concludes with a historical epilogue showing rare footage, bringing to life Simone, Carlebach, and other characters, created by Colombian-born filmmaker Nicole Fernandez and Somondoco Films.

Stars Tony Award® nominee Josh Young (Broadway’s Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita) as Shlomo, Nya (star of the recent Cleopatra and the Broadway revival of Caroline or Change) as Nina Simone and Emily Padgett (star of Broadway’s Side Show, Rock of Ages, Bright Star, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as Ruth.

The cast also includes Charlotte Moore (Les Miz, ALW’s Wizard of Oz), C.J. Tyson (Wicked), Rebecca Kritzer (In the Heights), Marvin Meital, Yovel Moss, Allison Poccia, Lital Shalit, Toni Elizabeth White, Luke Wygodny (Once), Jordan Zell, and Marc Zell and original Broadway cast members: Richard Cerato and Abdur-Rahim Jackson (who also choreographs).

The film of Soul Doctor is produced by original Broadway producer/conceiver Jeremy Chess, along with Jerome Levy and Chandra McQueen, with Lisa Simone Executive Producer.
