Black Moms & Breast Health Awareness
This Black History Month, we can honor Black women and mothers, while raising awareness for breast health.
Breast cancer affects women of all backgrounds, but studies show that Black women are often diagnosed at later stages and face higher mortality rates.

That’s why organizations like the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) are so vital—they provide education, resources, and support programs to empower women to take charge of their health.
Why Moms Should Prioritize Breast Health
Moms juggle countless responsibilities every day, but their health matters too. Scheduling regular screenings, performing monthly self-checks, and staying informed about risk factors can make a life-saving difference.
NBCF offers easy-to-access resources, including:
- Breast cancer education guides tailored to different age groups
- Free mammogram programs for eligible women (low-income/uninsured/underinsured)
- Patient Navigator Program & Support networks to help navigate diagnosis and treatment
Ways to Get Involved for Black History Month
As we honor the achievements and resilience of Black communities during Black History Month, it’s also an important time to focus on health—especially the well-being of Black women and mothers.
- Share Awareness: Post about breast cancer education and resources on social media to empower other moms in your community.
- Host a Family Health Day: Teach daughters, nieces and other female family members the importance of self-checks and healthy habits early.
- Support NBCF: Donate, volunteer, or participate in virtual events that raise funds and awareness for early detection.
By combining Black History Month reflection with breast cancer awareness, we celebrate not only the incredible contributions of Black women throughout history, but also honor their ongoing health journeys.
