One of the coolest thing about Spider-Man is his suit. And in the upcoming SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING film, the spidey suit gets an serious upgrade thanks to Stark Industries.

In the following video clip hear from Robert Downey Jr (Mr. Tony Stark himself) talk about the suits technology along with Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) talking about how cool the suit is. Because come on, it totally is!


I can't wait to see the upgraded suit in action when SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING releases in theaters on July 7.


MOVIE SYNOPSIS

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Netflix has introduced interactive storytelling for kids with DreamWorks Animation Television "Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale" and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile.

To get a first hand experience, we attended a #StreamTeam event at Stories Bookshop in Brooklyn, which was a great spot.


The bookshop had a nice back room where families could get comfortable to watch the new Netflix kids interactive episodes. The kids immediately started to get into the story-lines of the stories. Then when they had the option to chose what happened next, they really became excited.

As a parent, I LOVED this new interactive feature. It allows kids to be engaged instead of just "watching". Also it enhances and allows kids to explore the story using different options for what can happen next.

My son and the other Netflix kids enjoyed trying out this new interactive storytelling and I know other families will also. Imagine Choose Your Own Adventure books intertwined with internet television. The viewer gets to decide where to take the story next.

With Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, the boundaries of traditional storytelling are being pushed with the opportunity to create adventures for Puss and his friends in San Lorenzo. This stand alone episode presents various choice points to viewers, granting children complete creative control over some of their favorite DreamWorks characters.


SYNOPSIS

When Puss is sucked into a magical book of fairytales, he must get to “the end” of all the stories in order to escape. But the dastardly and mysterious Storyteller tries his best to make Puss’s journey difficult, using Puss’s friends as fairytale characters and offering him (and viewers) a series of choices that dictate the direction of the story.

The viewer must eventually choose between two main storylines – Sinbad the pirate and the Evil Queen – that lead Puss through different adventures and ultimately two distinct endings to his story.

As you can see Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale will be a treat for your family to enjoy. Start watching it now!

Just in time for when NYC public school ends for summer break, the NYPL has kicked off their Summer Reading 2017 program to help prevent summer slide and keep kids (and their parents) minds busy.

Note: No compensation was received for this post. I chose to post about it because it's a great program to encourage and support kids (and families) reading. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

Of course I made sure we visited our local library to get our booklets. We've been part of the program for the last few years and enjoy discovering new books and authors. Along with sneaking in some of our favorite books not on the list.



Once we had our booklet we were ready to attend the NYPL Summer Reading Kick off event at the Harlem Library. Once there we received a nypl summer reading bag (for our nypl books) and healthy snacks and drinks before heading inside for the days activities.

The schedule for the day was filled with some many activities happening on all the 3 floors. It was going to be a busy day.


We headed downstairs to check out the different vendors there including The Studio Museum of Harlem. We joined other families in arts and crafts where we made a little hut. The hut craft was a tie in for the inHarlem sculptural works currently in community public parks.


After crafting our hut, we decided to visit the real thing in the park right across from the library. My son was amazed by the "Hut" sculpture of Simone Leigh. We spent some time exploring and talking about it.


Then we headed back inside to meet ELMO! Since HBO was one of the sponsors supporting the event, they brought Elmo along. We're still big fans of the Sesame Street character so of course we got a photo with him.


After we made a quick stop for face painting. Well really arm painting. After some back and forth on what to get we settled on a bird.


With our arm painted, my son then visited another floor for some gaming. Did you know that you can play video games at the library?! Yup we've played a variety games on Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation. Check your local library for more info.


We left gaming to head to another floor to learn about animals with New Canaan Nature Center. We learned lots about birds of prey and my son even got to touch a wing. The kids were all excited to see the birds live and in person while learning about wild bird life and how to protect them.

While there was still lots more activities to do, we had to head back home. But the fun didn't end there. For the rest of the month the various NYPL will host their own Summer Reading events.

The New York Public Library is encouraging children and their parents to spend 20 minutes reading every day as part of our annual Summer Reading Challenge in an effort to keep young New Yorkers mentally active during the summer months. The theme for this year’s program is "Build a Better World.”

Throughout the summer, NYPL branches in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island will offer a wide variety of events and workshops around the theme, encouraging readers of all ages to find ways to help their communities. Check the list of summer reading events at branches throughout the system.

Right in time to kick off the weekend, Marvel Studios' released BLACK PANTHER teaser trailer and black comic book fans went wild.

After watching the trailer, the first thing I can say is Marvel Studios just take my money now!

Of course black comic fans weren't the only ones going crazy over the BLACK PANTHER teaser trailer, but lets face it, the black community is due a black superhero story! And from the BLACK PANTHER teaser trailer looks like Marvel Studios is going to give us a good one!

After watching the trailer (a few times), I can tell there's lots of ties-in from other comics and movie story-lines. I can't wait for the February 16, 2018 release of BLACK PANTHER!

When we have warm sunny days, I like to head outside and enjoy the day. Usually I have no problem having my son join me, but some days it's a struggle to get him off his devices.

I know that other parents struggle with getting their kids to have regular non-digital play time. Which is important because nationwide, approximately 17 percent of children and adolescents aged two to 19 years are obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

So I wanted to share some info about the partnership with UnitedHealthcare and Hasbro that helps get kids active using the NERF ENERGY Game Kit and “exergaming.”


To learn more about how “exergaming” works, we received a NERF ENERGY Game Kit to try out. Our kit included a kid friendly activity tracker and soccer ball. All we had to do was download the free mobile game and start “exergaming”.


We headed to the local basketball court to try everything out. My son enjoyed some time "hooping" it up on the court.


All the while he was dribbling and all the other court moves, he was racking up "energy points" tracked by the activity band.


After he was done on the court, he could then enjoy some gaming since those points turn into screen time to play the mobile game (NERF ENERGY RUSH) on a smartphone or tablet.

While you can play the game without the points, it's way more fun and great encouragement for kids to move around and get the point perks for the mobile game.

Since the child can pick their own method of being active, parents don't have to nag them to be active. And kids get the best of both worlds!

UnitedHealthcare has already donated 1,500 new NERF ENERFY Gaming Kits to Boys & Girls Club members across the country to promote physical activity. And continuing throughout 2017, UnitedHealthcare plans to donate 10,000 NERF ENERGY Game Kits to schools and youth-focused organizations nationwide including Baltimore, Orlando, Honolulu and Providence, Rhode Island.
