Cast Interview for Jingle Jangle on Netflix

During a virtual roundtable interview, I had that chance to speak with the cast of Netflix Jingle Jangle, including Madalen Mills (plays Journey), Kieron L. Dyer (plays Edison Latimer) and Lisa Davina Phillip (plays Ms. Johnston).

Note: I was invited as media to the movie screening and film cast roundtable. However any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

Since the cast seem like a fun group. I wanted my question to also be fun. So I asked them about their favorite scene.

Favorite scene in Jingle Jangle

Madalen Mills: My favorite scene that I did not do, is probably "Miles and Miles". Ms. Lisa was so funny and incredible. Ms. Lisa is so bubble, like hello! with jazz hands and everything.

Lisa Davina Phillip: My favorite scene that I wasn't in, is actually the snow ball scene. I secretly wish that I was in that scene, cause it looked like so much fun. Everybody throwing snowballs, the girls and guys dancing and even Forest (plays Jeronicus) dancing. I loved that scene

Kieron L. Dyer: I think my favorite scene was with Ms. Anika Noni Rose. The dancing, the singing, it made me just want to jump up and dance. I loved that scene.

Relating to their characters

Madalen Mills: I have many similarities with my character Journey, I feel we're both adventurous, feisty and have this go-getter personality. I really love my character. I think she's something that really drew me to the story.

Kieron L. Dyer: I'm similar to my character in a way that he's a bit jumpy. He's kinda of a scaredy cat sometimes and so am I. But I think the fact that he's very ambitious, to be what he wants to be. He wants to be an inventor, while I want to be an Actor. I love acting, he loves inventing so I think that ambition makes me like my character.

Lisa Davina Phillip: I love playing Ms. Johnston. She's just warm, bubbly and friendly. I think those are the similarities that I have with her. And also her determination. When she sets her mind on something, she is definitely going to go for it. Nothing is going to stand in her way.

Message for viewers to take away from Jingle Jangle

Kieron L. Dyer I hope the audience takes away the message of the movie, which is the power of possibility and belief. I think my character is very optimistic. He tries to turn a negative situation and see the positive in it.

Madalen Mills: I hope kids watch my character and know that it's ok to be themselves. Throughout the film, you see Journey grow into herself and find out who she is and know that, maybe I do fit in or maybe I don't. And that's perfectly fine.

I hope that kids will see that it's ok to be yourself. And that your unique and special in your own way.

Lisa Davina Phillip: I hope people take away that the idea of wonder and imagination is not just for children's. It's for adults as well.

And the idea that you can have a second chance and you can change. If you've made mistakes in your past, you shouldn't let it determine your future because you can change and heal.

A musical adventure and a visual spectacle for the ages, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is a wholly fresh and spirited family holiday event.

Set in the gloriously vibrant town of Cobbleton, the film follows legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle (Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker) whose fanciful inventions burst with whimsy and wonder.

But when his trusted apprentice (Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key) steals his most prized creation, it’s up to his equally bright and inventive granddaughter (newcomer Madalen Mills) — and a long-forgotten invention — to heal old wounds and reawaken the magic within.

From the imagination of writer-director David E. Talbert and featuring original songs by John Legend, Philip Lawrence, Davy Nathan, and "This Day" performed by Usher and Kiana Ledé, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey reminds us of the strength of family and the power of possibility.
