During the preview, I was able to learn about (and play) a range of current and upcoming games for the system.
Overall I love the idea of getting off the couch gaming. And Nex Playground offers families gaming with full body movement and more.
Here's a highlight of some of the things I learned during Nex Playground gaming console event.

My Review
I received a code to review The Smurfs - Dreams video game and enjoyed the game play. To start playing as a Smurf is a fun feature, as well as being able to customize my character.
Then there's the gaming world. It's colorful with fun challenges. As you get deeper into playing the game the world does get more serious to match the challenges. Like other platformer game there's secret areas and tricks to figure out to enhance the gameplay.
The Smurfs - Dreams has areas for young kids, but also older teens (and adults) who enjoy challenging game play. I played a few rounds with (and against) my teen son and we both enjoyed different area of the game.
I'm a fan of puzzles and exploring the different levels, while he likes completing missions and the "boss" battles. And in the end we both wanted to defeat Gargamel and wake up the Smurfs and had fun working together in the game.
Overall The Smurfs - Dreams is more then just a cute game for Smurfs fans. It offers an adventure and engaging gaming experience.

During a visit, I took my teen son and his friend to spent some time gaming, snacking and bonding while we learned how families can spend time together at Sugar Mouse NYC.
We fully enjoyed our time there, and think it's a great space for families to visit.
Gaming Space
Since our visit happened during Anime NYC, the walls were covered with moving projections from various anime series. I learned that using 360° projection technology the walls can be change multiple ways. Even customized by section for private parties and gatherings.
After taking photos with the anime walls....cause teen boy....we set out to play the various games.
We played pool, ping pong and foosball. The teens had fun learning how to play and playing against each other.
It was a nice way to get them off their smartphones and interacting deeper in real time. I can totally see families making memories and deeper bonds while playing these games.
Food Options
In between playing the various games, we tried a few items on the Sugar Mouse NYC menu. There's a few different pizza options, finger foods including chicken fingers and various juices and sodas.
Overall simple but tasty food options. However if your family has specific food needs or request, then contact Sugar Mouse NYC before your visit to discuss. They might be able to preorder something for a fee. They're starting to build partnerships with surrounding restaurants.
Adult Only Perks
While the kids are enjoying the games and activities, you have the option to enjoy an adult beverage with your food.
The full bar offers both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. I personally enjoyed drinks from both menus. Highly recommend either option.
Just a FYI
Overall the venue is versatile, offering everything from themed creative activities for kids, a relaxed settings for adults, and even a space for live music.
However, I do recommend keeping a few things in mind.
If you have young kids, then go early when Sugar Mouse NYC opens or during one of their family focused events.
For teens best to go as a group and maybe with an adult. Again going during focused events.
For planning private events, currently Sugar Mouse NYC recommends to do a rental before they open at 4pm. Contact them to preplan curate unique content for the guest (i.e., birthday space little mermaid, Marvel, Batman, etc.)

During New York Comic Con, we met with the D3Publisher team to get a first look at upcoming video game Earth Defense Force 6, releasing in Spring 2024.

While playing the game, we spoke with game producer Nobuyuki Okajima, who shared about updates to the game and gave my son some gaming tips.
A few things shared included
Nobuyuki Okajima: Earth Defense Force (EDF) was first was released in 2003, so right now it's 20th anniversary of this title.
EDF6 is a direct sequel of EDF5, which means this story is a continuation of that. So EDF6 ties up all the loose ends that EDF5 left for all the players. If you could play EDF5 first and then start playing EDF6, in terms of the story, it'll be a much better flow.
But even if you didn't play EDF5 and started on EDF6, you'll still be able to enjoy the game. It's just that you might miss some of the subtle story nuances that are connected EDF5.
Nobuyuki Okajima: These are direct replicas of the items in the game. This one heals you. This one gives you weapons. There's actually a total of more than a thousand types of weapons in this game.
So after you clear the mission, you will get extra loop. This one also gives you armor for your next mission and on. So these are basically buffs that lasts for the whole game.
Then while I watched, my son spent the next 20 mins game playing. While EDF6 is a a multiplayer game (play with up to 2 local players or 4 players in online co-op), for the demo it was setup as single player.
Our first thoughts after gaming?
We overall enjoyed the game play. The story is straightforward and the battle action intense. Blowing up giant bugs is always cool right? But the game also offers some cool gaming abilities and features.
We enjoyed our time with the D3Publisher team and can't wait for the full EDF6 video game release.

Activate – the indoor, interactive gaming experience – opened a new location inside American Dream Mall, New Jersey and invited my family for a first experience of their gaming rooms.

And what an experience it was! Overall this new location has a lot for gaming families with kids over age 10, teens, or just adults to enjoy including
Pressure-sensitive, color-changing tiles that challenge players to step on or avoid specific tiles to complete each round.
Mega Grid, which tests gamers; quick thinking as they race to- the right spot and freeze into statues at the perfect moment.
Strike, an innovative evolution of the fan-favorite Arena.
My mom and teen sons group had a blast playing whether it was with each other in a laser game to complete a task or against each other in the basketball game room. We can't wait to go back and play more!
Here's a few reasons that made our experience so fun
Check in Process & Locker
The check in process is so quick and smooth. After checking in for your pre-reservation, you finish up the process and sign all the forms on a tablet. You also scan and setup your gaming bands.
From there put your stuff in a locker, which also uses a scan band and your set! I was able to fit two bags, jackets and more in our locker easily. So we were free to game and not drag stuff around from room to room.
Interactive Team Gaming
When you have a team of people, there's no limit to the fun and no way anyone is going to be bored or feel left out. We love that!
We were so impressed that each room offered game play that could be experience more then one way. As a team you decided what version of a game you want to play in the room. And if you weren't sure how to play, the panel gave basic instructions.
Once in the rooms, we play as a group to finish the goal. The game start off easy so you get a feel for the game and then you can level up for more challenging game play.
But there's nothing super hard, so us moms were able to keep up with the teens. Heck, some times we played better then them. Some games are physical, while other are more logical. But all of the game are so fun!
We also liked that each room is on a timer. So no long game play if the team doesn't enjoy the game or if your waiting on a room your team did enjoy playing.
There's leaderboards to check your ranking and monitors to check your points, badges earned and more.

I was so surprised (and please) to learn after our gaming session, during check out your score is tallied and you earn rewards! I earned a key chain that digital saved my current score so I didn't have to start from zero when I returned. How cool is that?!

Based on the ‘Pierre the Maze Detective’ comic books by Japanese artist Hirofumi Kamigaki and illustration studio IC4DESIGN, the game puts players in the shoes of young detective Pierre as he tracks down the slippery Mr X.
The elaborate environments from the hand of artist Hirofumi Kamigaki are the colourful stage for a marathon chase, which is as much about enjoying the scenery as ensnaring the prey. The magical Maze Stone has been swiped from Opera City’s museum by Mr X, and young hero Pierre answers the call to track him down.
Each maze that Pierre has to navigate is littered with hidden secrets, minigames, and dozens of fun interactions with a dazzling variety of citizens.

Our Review
The Monster Truck Championship videogame puts you right in the drivers seats to give you a real feel from learning how to drive, competing on tracks against other trucks and even having your own freestyle moments.
The tutorials are really helpful, even for experince video game drivers, since they guide you with tips on how to improve your driving. The graphics and images are clear, bold and bright on the screen.
Of course the driving itself was the highlight. Once we learned how to control our trucks, the game play was smooth but still exciting. We spent a few hours going around the different tracks and trying to improve our time against the other trucks.
Fans of motorsport live events will enjoy playing Monster Truck Championship.

Did you see the movie Spies in Disguise? We did and enjoyed it so much. So we were excited to demo the mobile game "Spies in Disguise: Agents on the Run" before it's official release by Denali Publishing

At first glance "Spies in Disguise: Agents on the Run" looks like just a regular running game but as we played it, we discovered come cool features that makes this game more then that.
First, we enjoyed playing as different characters from the movie. You do have to build up points before you can swap characters. But with each character switch you get different tools to help you accomplish you mission.
Second, your mission take you through "global locations and cinematic action moments inspired by the " which is super fun cause you get to revisit the movie!
Third, you hear voice clips from the film’s star cast, including Will Smith, Tom Holland, and Rashida Jones. It happens while playing so you really feel that you are the character.
So as you can see "Spies in Disguise: Agents on the Run" offers much more then just running around collecting coins. HA!
