First Taste Pure Grit BBQ: Vegan Barbecue NYC Menu

By 7/30/2022 04:22:00 PM

After learning that Pure Grit BBQ first NYC location offered a variety of plant-based dishes with a BBQ spin, including a Mac & Cheese side dish, I had to stop by for a taste. It was so worth a visit.

Note: I was invited as media to this event. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

During my visit I met Kerry Fitzmaurice, Founder of Pure Grit BBQ, who shared her aim to expose more people to "vegan" BBQ. Eating vegan doesn't mean you have to miss out on taste or limit the style of food you can enjoy.

Kerry wants anyone who's looking to add more plant-based and gluten-free dishes to their lifestyle, but still loves BBQ food, to know they have options at Pure Grit BBQ locations.

And speaking of options, I was able to taste test a few of the Pure Grit BBQ dishes including

  • Impossible Queso Burger
  • Baked Bean Burger
  • and of course, the Mac + Cheese served with Shiitake Bacon and Almond Parmesan!

OMGosh everything was so yum! Just as flavorful and fulling as regular BBQ dishes. And the prices are very reasonable, so you can eat healthy and stay within budget.

Pure Grit BBQ unique and inclusive menu is designed for all barbecue lovers and includes:

  • Signature Cornbread Waffles that come with every BBQ plate ($21) but can be purchased as a side. ($5)
  • Smoked Mains including Impossible, Pulled Eggplant Sandwiches, Mushrooms, and Tofu as well as traditional sides like Coleslaw, Baked Beans, Potato Salad and Waffle Fries.
  • Pure Grit BBQ’s fan favorite Mac + Cheese served with Shiitake Bacon and Almond Parmesan ($14).
  • The menu also features two signature Salads ($18) and the Kitchen Sink Cookie ($5) sure to be an instant classic.

Founder of Pure Grit BBQ, Kerry Fitzmaurice and business partner Jenny Mauric collaborated with vegan chef Nikki King Bennett most recently featured in the Netflix series “Bad Vegan” on perfecting the sides, and nationally-renowned Pitmaster Daniel Jacobellis of Top Gun BBQ to ensure the authenticity of barbecue in every dish.

They also joined forces with “Hell’s Kitchen” finalist and plant-based chef Emily Hersh in 2021 to helm the kitchen and perfect the menu.

In addition to prioritizing the food and restaurant experience, the team is also focused on sustainability, reducing waste as much as possible with optimized recipes, composting, compostable packaging, recycling and more.

Pure Grit BBQ even partnered with sustainable fashion brand Canava for uniforms and merchandise.

Pure Grit BBQ is open seven days a week from 11 am – 9 pm, 10 pm on Friday and Saturdays, with pricing starting at $5 for sides and up to $30 for loaded plates.

The storefront offers 18 seats inside and even more seating outside. This location will offer pickup and delivery as well as catering for gatherings large and small.
