Earth Month New York Energy Zone Event

In celebration of April as Earth Month, the John S. Dyson New York Energy Zone, New York Power Authority’s (NYPA)’s state-of-the-art science center located next to the Utica Zoo, is having a FREE youth-oriented community event on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

In addition to the more than 40 interactive exhibits and 3-D movie permanently on display at the New York Energy Zone, there will be numerous special activities and giveaways to entertain and educate guests, including:

  • A pollinator workshop, along with crafts and fun, provided by the Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Child Care Council of Oneida County
  • An Earth Day cinch bag giveaway
  • Opportunities to learn about the pollinator gardens coming soon to the New York Energy Zone and Utica Zoo, courtesy of NYPA
  • A flowering pollinator seedling giveaway
  • “Plantable” seed paper light bulb to create your own wildflower garden
  • A movie about national parks in the STEM classroom
  • Prize wheel giveaways

The New York Energy Zone is a fully-immersive and hands-on science center designed for visitors of all ages, guiding guests on a powerful journey through the past, present, and future of electricity.

Visits to the 15,000 square-foot facility kick off with an eye-popping 3-D movie, directed by legendary filmmaker Douglas Trumbull, about famed inventor Nikola Tesla and his contributions to modern electricity systems.

This sets the stage for more than 40 interactive displays and games that range from flying a drone to checking transmission lines to operating a power plant and building a table-top microgrid.
