Nathan W Pyle has two new additions to his fan-favorite Strange Planet book series, Strange Planet: The Sneaking, Hiding, Vibrating Creature and Strange Planet Activity Book.

Just this month, Apple TV+ announced a 10-episode, straight-to-series order for an animated series based on the Strange Planet comics.

With Amalia Levari (Over The Garden Wall) to serve as showrunner, Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty, Community) as co-creator alongside Pyle, and animation house ShadowMachine (BoJack Horseman, Final Space) attached to the project, Strange Planet is sure to get the TV treatment, bringing Pyle’s profound and heartfelt comics to our home screens.

To celebrate the news and books releases, I'm sharing these fun facts

Fun Facts About Strange Planet

  • Although Nathan’s big eyed, bright blue creatures look like aliens, he does not use the term to describe his lovable creations, opting for the word ‘Beings’ instead as the comics take place on their home planet and the readers are the actual ‘aliens.’
  • Pyle was inspired to create the Strange Planet comics after he and his wife, while preparing to host guests, began hiding their possessions, specifically their toaster, to make their small apartment appear as clean as possible. While it may be normal to clean up ahead of guests, hiding your toaster sounds bizarre out of context. This situation became Pyle’s first ever Strange Planet comic. Pyle says that he “loves diving into really specific, explicit social behavior and norms.” Through his carefully constructed dialogue, he shines a light on strange, yet universal human behavior.
  • Before Strange Planet , Pyle worked in TV production and sold his T-Shirt designs on Threadless, an e-commerce website for artists to spread and sell their work. One of his most popular T-Shirt designs (“I love being around you,” which features a moon and earth holding hands as they spin around in orbit) even appeared on the TV show Community , created by Dan Harmon—who will be working on the Strange Planet animated series alongside Pyle.

Pyle’s first ever kids picture book, STRANGE PLANET: THE SNEAKING, HIDING, VIBRATING CREATURE (HarperFestival; Children’s Hardcover; $14.99; June 2021), was an instant #1 New York Times Bestseller.

Lifegiver has an exciting quest planned for Offspring! All day long, they use a journal, pen, and makeshift binoculars to observe a strange furry creature that sneaks, hides, and vibrates around their house. Hilarity ensues as the blue beings try to mimic this talented creature.?

As always, Nathan W. Pyle draws humor from his unique perspective on human activity and delivers a colorful experience that is an ode to cats and humans alike.

STRANGE PLANET ACTIVITY BOOK: Puzzles! Games! Comics! And More!

This September, young fans (8-12) can enjoy the STRANGE PLANET ACTIVITY BOOK (HarperCollins; $10.99; September 2021).

The book, filled with puzzles, games, and activities, features iconic big eyed, blue Beings, a bright pastel palette, and delightfully odd, deadpan humor. There are over one hundred pages to joyfully doodle in and complete, with activities ranging from crossword puzzles, mazes, word searches, matching games, spot the difference, and more.

Along with his Strange Planet series, Nathan W. Pyle is the author of the illustrated books, NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette and 99 Stories I Could Tell . He is a former staff writer and illustrator for BuzzFeed. He is based in New York City but travels the country speaking about creativity and storytelling.
