The Wild Life: a peek at Robinson Crusoe island life & Activity Sheets #TheWildLife

The animated film THE WILD LIFE, now playing in theaters, offers a peek into the life of Robinson Crusoe before and after he get stranded on a tiny exotic island. It's a very unique peek that includes a parrot, cats and an assortment of other animals that help Crusoe discover the true power of friendship against all odds.

I was excited to see this animated film based (loosely) on the life of Robinson Crusoe. Imagine being alone (sorta) on an island and having to figure out how to survive. But Crusoe really didn't have to struggle too much since the island he landed on already had animals. Animals who, once they got over their fear, helped him. Lots.

I really wish there was a flashback or something about those animals because they helped drive the story more then Crusoe himself. While Crusoe has his moments (tree house!) the story really isn't about him.

The story follows how the island animals adjust to Crusoe (sometimes humorously) along with a secondary story about cats that don't adjust to Crusoe (not humorously). What the films ended up being is an animal adventure filled with moments of humans (including pirates).

Overall, the story is just OK. I do think the film had some good moments that could have become more but was pushed aside by the secondary story of Crusoe and the cats. If you can get past that, then you can enjoy the film for what is.

The Wild Life has great animation and a nice primary story of supporting your friends.

From the over-exuberant parrot Mak to the snack-obsessed tapir Rosie, from the persnickety echidna Epi to the acrobatic pangolin Pango, from the ditzy goat Scrubby to the commonsensical kingfisher Kiki and the always-cool chameleon Carmello, things are larger-than-life on a tropical isle that is pure wild animal paradise.

Then Robinson Crusoe, a marooned human, arrives in the midst of a furious storm, and their lives are forever changed by this bewildering new “creature.” No matter their differences, castaway human and quirky animals embark on an hilarious new adventure, building the island’s first tree-house and surviving together.

But when two conniving members of the animal kingdom — the savage cats Mal & May – pounce into a battle for control of the island, Crusoe and his animal posse must uncover the true power of friendship against all odds (even savage cats).
