Note: I was invited as media to the Techlicious lunch and tour. I received a gift bag after the event. No other compensation was received. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.
If you've read my past recaps for Techlicious events during CE Week 2013 and CE Week 2012, then you know their tours and lunch are awesome.

We all met for lunch at BLT Fish, a favorite of everyone, and enjoyed socializing before sitting down to lunch. The lunch at BLT Fish is always SO good!

As we enjoyed lunch, we heard from 3 companies, who shared with us the latest tech stats, trends and products being released this year.

We first heard from LG USA, who shared that "80% of flat panel TVs will be smart-enabled by the end of 2015 -- Parks Associates" Add to that the growth in other areas for devices including smartphones, digital cameras and movies that will stream and/create 4k content.
To match that need LG Electronics has launched its third-generation Ultra HD 4K LED TV line-up. LG’s 2014 models are designed to handle 4K content from streaming services such as Netflix.
For 2014, LG Ultra HD TVs feature the Smart TV+ webOS platform which features an intuitive user interface that makes it easier to find and move between between content. With webOS, live TV, streaming services and previously viewed content are all accessible via one click on its “launcher bar” menu.
The platform also includes recommendation capabilities to help you sift through content, which include streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus and more.

Next we heard from Philips Sound, who demoed their new Soundbase – also known as the sound stand, speaker stand, and sound platform.
The Philips Soundbase solves the issue of having a TV too thin to accommodate high-quality speakers. While Soundbars block the IR controls if placed in front of most TVs and tend to be on the big/bulky side, Philips Soundbase sit below the TV, so they don’t interfere with your remote.
The HTB3525B model includes a discreet slot for Blu-ray Discs and offers access to the Philips Smart TV Internet TV service, allowing consumers to further enhance their experience. The Philips TV Surround Base HTB3525B is also 2014 CEA Innovations Award winner in the Home Theater category.
Not just for movies, the Philips TV Surround Base offers wireless music streaming via Bluetooth, enabling you to fill the room with your favorite music. The addition of Near Field Communications for Android phones allows consumers to pair their phone with the Surround Base using Bluetooth with just one touch. With only one HDMI cable needed to connect the Surround Base to the TV, set up is quick and simple. Utilizing with HDMI CEC, allows consumers to also control the Surround Base with the TV remote control
The Philips HTL4115B is $199 and the HTB3525B is $299 are currently available.

Then we heard from TripIt, who shared the "44% of travelers use their smartphone to research travel WHILE they’re traveling - JiWire report". TripIt wants to help take out some of the stress and multi organizing traveling families and indiduvals have to do.
Simply forward confirmation emails from anywhere you book and TripIt “automagically” creates one simple, smart itinerary to access on a smartphone, calendar, or anywhere online. For even greater peace of mind while traveling, TripIt Pro acts like a personal travel assistant that keeps travelers in the know regarding flight status, alternate flights, and more; tracks all frequent traveler points in one place; and monitors eligible flights for fare refunds.
Once again, I have to say thank to you to the Techlicious team for the tour, lunch and making sure the group of bloggers and media were kept up to date with the latest technology happening during CE Week.

ReplyDeleteOhhhh we just did living room renovations and are in the market for a TV. I love LG so thank you for this info.
ReplyDeleteAnd for making me jealous of the food!
3d TV didn't work because of lack of support for content by TV broadcasters. Ultra HD will fail for the same reason. Many channels still aren't even in HD and most that are, aren't even in full HD (1080p) due to lack of bandwidth on cable and satellite services.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great event. I love my LG TV!
