Father's Day Crafting with HP Photosmart Printer

I recently had the opportunity to get crafty with HP at the DwellStudio in Soho, NYC. I was really excited to see what crafts my boys and I could create just in time for Father’s Day.

I was invited as media to this event and received a HP PhotoSmart printer for personal use and also as a prize for this giveaway. No other compensation was received. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

I arrived at the amazing Dwell Studio and instantly began to “window shop”. The fabrics, prints, art, décor and toys are amazing, such a bright, colorful, unique selection! We enjoyed yummy snacks while exploring the studio and checking out the latest HP touchscreen.

Soon it was time to start crafting and both, “T” (3 years old) & “A” (1 year old) were ready to start gluing! We were introduced to the amazing HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer where we were able to send pictures directly to the printer from our own mobile devices in order to create our personalized crafts.

We began snapping pictures using some cute Snapfish props provided and utilizing the exquisite furniture and décor that surrounded us in the DwellStudio. We chose a few pictures and sent them to the computer to make our very own photo coasters.

The coasters were super simple to make and the boys enjoyed gluing their pictures to the ceramic tiles. They can’t wait to wrap up their coasters and present them to Daddy on his special day. Here are some simple instructions so that you can make your very own personalized photo coasters too!

Personalized Photo Coasters:

• 4 inch tiles
• Mod Podge Glossy
• HP color printer and Original HP Ink and supplies
• White paint and a small paint brush
• Ruler and scissors
• A sheet of felt or fun foam
• Polyurethane and an applicator (or spray polyurethane)
• Glue gun or Gorilla Glue

Step by Step:

  1. Paint the edges of your tiles white Most white tiles come with a tan edge. You can leave them tan or paint them white to give it a more finished look.
  2. Attach the Backing To keep the tiles from scratching furniture, use a glue gun or Gorilla Glue (or any other heavy duty glue) to apply foam or felt to the back of the coaters. Cut the foam/felt to fit the bottom and use a decent amount of heavy duty glue to attach to the coaster.
  3. Choose and Print Your Photos You will need a 4x4 photo for each coaster. Use your printer to print the photos onto HP 4x6 or 5x7 photo paper and cut it to size.
  4. Glue your Photos Spread a thin, even layer of Mod Podge on the top of your tile. Place your 4x4 image on top of the tile in the center. Make sure to smooth out the photo so that it sticks to the tile! Add a second, thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the photo and smooth it from the center to the edges. Let the Mod Podge dry.
  5. Apply your Polyurethane Top Coat Spray Polyurethane works like a charm and will protect your coasters from moisture! Spray a thin layer on the top and sides of the coasters. You can do as many layers as you want, but make sure the Polyurethane has time to dry between coats. (Note: it’s best to use the spray polyurethane outside of the house if you can)
  6. Let Coasters Dry Once you’ve finished putting your coasters together, let them dry overnight. These make great gifts for birthdays, Father’s Day, and anything in between.
