Recently Discovery Bay Games hosted a preview for their newest iPad “Appcessories”, which are gaming accessories that are app supported and driven.

Please Note: I was invited as media and received a gift bag after the event. Views expressed are always 100% my own.

Last holiday season Discovery Bay Games, Atari Arcade was one of Apple’s top selling “Appcessory” products during the 2011 holiday season. This year Atari Arcade is still going strong for fan of Atari's style classic game play.

Atari Arcade

With a retro design, analog joystick and four control buttons, the Atari Arcade brings a mobile, arcade-like experience to the "Atari's Greatest Hits" app. After installing the app, connect the iPad into the Atari Arcade's dock and play almost 100 Atari classics including Asteroids, Centipede and Missile Command.

Unlike wireless connections, the hard-wired dock provides accurate and speedy response to actions taken with the joystick or control buttons while also powering the Atari Arcade without the need for batteries.

The Atari Arcade is available for $59.99 at Target, Apple Stores, Apple.com, and Toys R Us.

Other Appcessories seen during the preview included Duo Pop and Duo Plink both work with apps made specifically for the included wireless receiver and four buzzers to turn your iPad into a home board game.

Duo Pop app game

The apps made for the Duo Pop ($40) are quiz show games where you need to buzz in first and answer the question correctly. The three apps available – Guesstimation, Highlights Hidden Pictures Countdown, and Saturday Night Live – The Game.

Duo Plink app game

For Duo Plink ($30) , there's a container with two different sections you ‘plink’ tokens into depending on what your answer to the question is. The device automatically keeps try of all the scores based on those tokens. Currently two apps are available for Plink – The Smithsonian Artifact or Fiction App and Yoomi.

The app games cost $2.99 on the iTunes App Store.

During the event I also received a top secret sneak peek at soon to be released other Discovery Bay Games “Appcessories”, including 2 very fun games for kids featuring favorite characters. Right now it's all hush hush but hopefully soon I'll be able to share. Look out for that info later in the year.
