VU1 Mercury Free Light Bulbs

There is mercury in my light bulbs? That’s what the response typically is when told about the dangers of those ubiquitous CFL light bulbs popping up everywhere. Mercury is not to be tangled with in any household – in fact, the instructions related to cleaning up a broken CFL are downright scary. Clear the room. Turn off your A/C and leave it off for several hours. Dispose of the debris at an approved cleanup location.

Luckily, there is a better alternative - a new lighting technology called Electron Stimulated Luminescence (ESL) that will soon be brightening up the homes of very savvy families. The bulb – available widely in Summer 2012 – has been created by Vu1 and is set to shake up the light bulb industry.

A short list of the new bulb’s attributes include:
  • Energy efficiency – Up to 60 percent more efficient than incandescent bulbs.
  • Safe and Environmentally friendly – Because there are no toxic materials in the bulbs, they are disposable with all household waste and will not impact local landfills.
  • Aesthetically pleasing – Unlike the twisted look of the CFL bulbs, the ESL bulbs are fashioned after the traditional bulb.
  • Better light – The ESL technology creates the warm, pleasing glow that equals that of incandescent bulbs.
  • Long lasting – Will provide approximately 10 years of service per bulb.
With Earth Day nearing, you might want to check these blubs out. The bulbs retail for approximately $14.98.
