Philadelphia International Flower Show "Hawaii: Islands of Aloha" 2012 Preview

Recently I attended a preview for the Philadelphia International Flower Show taking place March 4-11, 2012 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This year the show's theme is "Hawaii: Islands of Aloha" and the the screening room at the Eventi Hotel was decorated with amazing floral displays.

During the event I learned visitors to this year's flower show will see real-time floral competitions, the world’s largest lettuce wall, internationally renowned speakers, and a whole new layout of displays. The popular pressed plants, miniatures, and floral designs will go with the Hawaii flow, with titles such as Blue Lagoon, Diamond Head, Surf’s Up and Island Vibe.

Visitors to the show will also enjoy free lectures and demonstrations on topics such as lei-making and quilting, green roofs and walls, organic gardening, ornamental horticulture and more. Every day, the Show will feature hula, music and fire dancing performances, a Family Lounge of children’s activities, and a “man cave” filled with all the trappings of a happy hideaway.

Family Day will be a great way to introduce the young ones to the world of gardening and will feature appearances by Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” in the Family Lounge on Sundays, March 4 and 11, from 2-5 p.m. Toddlers, youngsters and teens are invited to do hands-on planting, flower arranging, Hawaii-inspired arts and crafts, and earth-loving activities in the all-new Einstein Healthcare Network Family Lounge powered by Sprout.

Not sure how to get around during the show? Then check out the Flower Show App for Smartphone which will provide free maps, schedules, special offers, Show features, and parking advice.
