The Mother Company "A Little Book about Feelings" Book Reading & Review

This weekend I joined Leticia of TechSavvyMama and the founders of The Mother Company at Books of Wonder for a live reading of their book "A Little Book about Feelings" by Ruby from "Ruby’s Studio: The Feelings Show".

Besides the story time, there was arts and crafts activities for the kids and families and a special musical performance by Elizabeth Mitchell (who sang “The Happy Song” in “The Feelings Show”)

Before the event started I had a chance to meet with Abbie and Sam and learn more about how and why they felt a need to "foster emotional literacy in our children". Since Abbie and Sam are both also mothers, they understood the confusion and frustration parents feel when our children reach a certain age and they're all about "feeling".

While many TV shows help teach kids how to learn their ABC's etc, very few shows help kids understand their "feelings" in a safe and fun way. Abbie and Sam, which the help of experts, think it's time to redefine screen time. Through The Mother Company, they’re redefining children’s entertainment by offering
  • Programs that model good behavior.
  • Entertainment that is fun, stylish, and educational all at the same time.
  • Content and pacing that doesn’t make kids – or parents – freak out.

One of their products helping to do this "A Little Book About Feelings", which I received to review. This picture book shows "felt creatures" in different situations that help young children learn about a variety of feelings. I read the book to my son and he enjoyed it. At this stage of his 3 year old life "feelings" are a big thing so the book helped both of us understand how to deal with them.

During the event I also learned that The Mother Company has launch their first app for kids! The storybook app is based on their children’s book, “A Little Book About Feelings.” and narrated by Ruby from “Ruby’s Studio: The Feelings Show.” The App is available for iPhone and iPad on iTunes. You can find a link and trailer for the “A Little Book About Feelings.” app here
