Home Depot 3rd Annual "Retool Your School" HBCU Grant Program Contest

The Home Depot recently launched the 3rd annual Retool Your School campus improvement grant program. Online voting began February 14, 2012 and will end April 10, 2012. The Retool Your School program is a unique competition for alumni, family and friends, as well as students to vote for their favorite Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) project.

This year’s program includes the addition of two new awards -- the new Campus Pride Grant, as well as an additional Tier II Grant. The 2012 Retool Your School Grants, for the school project proposal that receives the most online votes, will total $185,000 to be awarded as
  • (1) $50,000 Tier I Grant,
  • (11) $10,000 Tier II Grants
  • (1) $25,000 Campus Pride Grant
The Home Depot’s goal is to award grants for projects that will have a lasting impact. Last year, Bethune Cookman University received a Tier I Grant of $50,000, which will be used to install automated access doors and a wheelchair ramp in its Student Center to accommodate students, faculty and staff members with disabilities.

Additionally, past Retool Your School proposals and projects have included recommendations for upgrades utilizing a variety of sustainable resources. Special attention is given to projects that include eco-friendly and energy-saving elements, including energy-efficient lighting and windows, water-saving faucets, etc.
