Professional Blogging Goals for 2012 New Year

With the start of the 2012 New Year many bloggers are posting personal look backs at what they did in 2011. Of course this is a great idea but I wont post to much like that. It's not that I didn't do some awesome things in 2011. Certainly not that. It's more that all those awesome things that happened in 2011 now has my focus in what I can do in 2012.

2012 goals

One of the most important things 2011 taught me is to have goals, to dream big and have an open mind about possibilities because what I hope and wish for just might happen. Right there and then.

So what are some of my goals for 2012? I'll share my personal goals in another post because I wanted this post to be about my professional blogging goals.

mom music panel

Expand into More Public Speaking

Many don't know this, but at the start of 2011 one of my secret goals was to speak on a panel. I wasn't sure how and for what but I knew I wanted to have that experience in 2011. Did it happen? Oh boy did it!

In February, I was invited to be on the Fueling Passion for Music Discovery panel, hosted by Pandora and Big Fuel during Social Media Week 2011. I really liked sharing how as a mother and women I used music in my everyday life. It felt amazing to be in a room filled with people who were interested in what a panel of moms/women had to say on subjects beyond the expected mom topics.

A few weeks later I was preparing to be a speaker at the Mom 2.0 Summit but sadly had to pull out at the last moment due to a increased work schedule and the need to juggle family life. I was extremely disappointed at that lost opportunity and vowed to find another way to speak at Mom 2.0 Summit in the future.

But that wasn't my last opportunity to be on a panel in 2011. Later in the year I was invited to be on the Verizon Wireless panel about Smartphones & Modern Parenthood. Again I enjoyed using my "expertise" to lead a discussion on subjects important to me, how parents use smartphone technology!

Last year was amazing for me as a budding speaker and I hope to make 2012 another amazing year as a public speaker!

Girl Talk Cause Party event

Host Another Blog/PR Media Event

Like many moms in the blogging world, I attend a lot of pr media events. I really like learning about the new products and services brand are launching. But more then that I love learning how these products or services can help or give back to the community. I'll never forget what inspired me to host my very first Girl Talk Cause Party blog/pr media event in 2010.

I heard through the B-Link network about the JOHNSON’S® “Girl Talk Cause Party” Program, and how bloggers could host a mini “get-together” with the purpose of creating awareness and support for a designated charity of your choice.

I chose to raise awareness about Pearl S. Buck International (PSBI), a non-profit organization that provides services for transracial adoptions in varies countries. One of my favorite mixed race celebrities Hines Ward partnered with Pearl S. Buck International in Korea to help children who's half African American and Korean suffering from racial discrimination. Since my son is also black and Korean this event was close to my heart.

I'm proud to say my event went well and in 2012, I hope to host another event with a brand giving back to the community in some way.

build relationships

Continue to Build Relationships with Brands

Speaking of working with brands....

A quick look at my sidebar will highlight some of the brands that invited me to join their ambassadorship programs like Kids Club 13 and Tropicana to name a few.

I was also proud that 2011 was an amazing year for me to work with large brands like Hewlett-Packard (HP), Verizon Wireless and others.

While these brands are awesome in their own right, they've each taken the time to develop one on one relationships with me and other bloggers. This has lead to finding unique ways of connecting more deeply with our community of blog readers.

In 2012, I hope to continue building relationships with current brands and expand to include a few new ones!

So now that I've shared, it's your turn to tell me how your gearing up for the 2012 New Year?
