Our Day Out with Thomas the Train Tour as a Mommy Reporter

As you know from my blog about getting ready for Our Day Out with Thomas, I was selected to be a "Mommy Reporter" at the Day Out with Thomas: Leader of the Track Tour 2011 at the Delaware River Railroad Excursions. I was so excited to cover the tour since my son is a fan of Thomas and Friends. The day promised to be filled with lots of activities and fun and we headed to New Jersey very early on Saturday morning so we wouldn't miss anything!

What is the Day Out with Thomas Tour all about?

Pulling out of the station for its 16th consecutive ride on the rails, the Day Out With Thomas: Leader of the Track Tour 2011 will visit more than 45 cities in the United States and Canada. Day Out With Thomas is the only place for families to take a ride with a 15-ton replica of everybody’s favorite No. 1 engine, Thomas the Tank Engine.

Families can enjoy Thomas-themed activities at the Imagination Station, including stamps, temporary tattoos and hands-on arts and crafts. Each year the tour grows, traveling to new destinations, adding new activities and welcoming new visitors.

Since I was provided with 4 tickets, I invited one of my friends and her family to join me and my son for all the Day Out with Thomas fun. Since they live in New Jersey it was a quick ride to them, load everyone in the car and then drive to the Delaware River Railroad Station.

Once there we made a quick stop in the gift shop to see all the Thomas and Friends items for sale. There was so many items for fans to buy from Day Out with Thomas t-shirts, hats and bags to all sorts of trains sets and toys. After we walked around window shipping we headed out to the other activities.

I wanted to stop by the 2 bounce houses but my son wandered over to the bubble area instead. As he tried to catch the bubbles, I waited our turn to take a photo with the trains backdrop. There was one for steamies and one for diesels. We only got a chance to take one backdrop photo but I think it came out very nice, don't you?

From there we visited the toddler maze and then headed down to the picnic area to catch the fun at the Imagination Station tent. Lots of activities happening under the tent that included stamping and arts and crafts. My son stopped to play at the different toy stations and get a tattoo of Thomas.

We then went to another tent and enjoyed some story-time Once outside again we watched the juggler do his thing and then headed over to the petting zoo to see the animals.

Soon Thomas pulled into the station and we need to get in line for boarding! On the way to board families could stop for photos in front of Thomas the Train and then head to another tent for a photo with Mister Topham Hatt. My son was a little nervous seeing everyone real and up close but we managed to get the photo taken will only a little crying.

Once on the train the kids settled down and enjoyed the ride. As conductors walked along the isles collecting tickets, the kids listened to Thomas talking to them from within the train via the PA system. Thomas asked questions that the kids could answer and shared fun facts about life on Sodar.

Before leaving the train the kids received certificates that made them Junior Engineer's. Yah! After that the kids were tired so we all headed back home.

The tour will continue for a few more months so check to see if it will stop near you. Your kids will love it! To see other tour dates visit: http://www.ticketweb.com/promo/dowt/index.html
