Interview with Cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows #TMNT2
This weekend Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows opened in theaters everywhere! I screened the movie a few days prior and highly recommend it for new and long time fans of the ninja turtles.
Note: Hosted by Paramount Pictures, I was invited as media to the movie screening and press junket interviews. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.
If you saw the movie this weekend, you're probably excited about all the characters from the TMNT comics and TV series now introduced into the live action movie. I know I was!
So I was excited to hear direct from the cast of actors about bring each character to real live, during the press junket for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
Joining the interviews during the first part of the TMNT 2 Junket were
- Will Arnett
- Brian Tee
- Tyler Perry
- Stephen Amell
- Stephen Farrelly
- Gary Anthony Williams
On the growth of his character Vern, WILL ARNETT shared
For me, personally, for Vern, it was kind of fun to be able to come back and do something a little bit different. He’s kind of on this path that you think is kind of shady but ultimately has a sort of a little bit of redemption, so that was good. But overall it was important to kind of make a bigger, more fun exciting Turtles film.
On developing Baxter Stockman. TYLER PERRY shared
When I first got the call and I got the offer, I went back and researched and then I go, wait, he’s black. Oh, okay. So when I saw the history of him, I was like wow, this animation kind of looks a little bit like me, if my hair were different. So that’s where we came from, with the producers and the director, they were very clear on what they wanted him to be and how they wanted him to be, so I just kind of surrendered to the whole vision and it all fell together.
On playing Casey Jones, STEPHEN AMELL shared
Well, they did me a big favor by giving Casey Jones, who’s been in the Turtles canon since the inception of the Turtles basically, a unique backstory in this movie. He’s a corrections officer. And we don’t get in this movie quite yet the full-fledged five alarm fire Casey Jones that a lot of fans of the Turtles and the cartoon and the comics are used to. This is a Casey Jones that’s trying to figure out what his path is.
So we get glimpses of that, but the fact of my motivation is that I’ve bumped up against the idea of being a police detective in the New York City Police Department my entire life, and it hasn’t worked out. That allowed me to take a Casey Jones and make it my own. So without that backstory I would have been – I mean, I would have figured it out hopefully, but this helped a lot.
On meeting and bonding with each other, STEPHEN FARRELLY shared
From day one, we just hit it off, you know? When I found out that I got the role and that Gary was going to play Bebop, I got his number, called him, he got kind of weirded out at that in the beginning, this strange dude was calling him. But no, when we landed on set the first time we met everybody and then we went straight to an Irish bar.
And the “my man” thing and a lot of this stuff that came in the movie together just came very organically. I mean, it’d be hard not to get along with this fella, or laugh with this fella, and just the energy off him, we just bounced it back and forth and it was a lot of fun.
On meeting and bonding with each other, GARY ANTHONY WILLIAMS shared
He’s another grown dude like me who was sitting around watching cartoons. So I was intimately familiar with the Turtles in the cartoon form, never read a comic book, till we got this, picked up a lot of comic books, he and I watched the cartoons together, watched a bunch of animal videos together.
Yeah, we watched warthog and rhino – I’m dead serious. We sat in this coffee shop watching warthog and rhino videos, just watching.
It was great meeting the cast and listening to how they tried to keep their character true for the fans and the TMNT storyline.
If you've seen the movie then you now that all the cast did an amazing job with their characters. If haven't seen the movie yet, then go get your ticket and be ready to be amazed!
Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael return to theaters this summer to battle bigger, badder villains, alongside April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell).
After supervillain Shredder escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world.
As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang
