Celebrating Year of the Monkey with McDonald's Lunar New Year 2016 Calendar

This weekend started the Chinese Year of the Monkey! Once again we're joining McDonald’s New York Tri-State to honor and celebrate Asian heritage and highlight their Lunar New Year 2016 calendar.

Note: I received a Lunar New Year 2016 Calendar from McDonald's New York Tri-State, but was not required to blog about it. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

To get a first look at the McDNYTriState Lunar New Year 2016 calendar, we visited their booth during the Chinatown Firecracker Ceremony.

The theme of the Lunar New Year 2016 calendar is “Dreams Under the Moon” which explores the Asian American identity through a lush history of myths and folklore. These stories and characters have been passed on for hundreds of generations and help connect modern Asian Americans to their Asian roots.

I love that the calendar includes beautiful illustrations by various artists of Asian decent including Korean and East Indian.

While at the booth we met Ronald McDonald, who posed for a photo with my son and wish us a Happy New Year!

After visiting the McDNYTriState booth, we joined the crowds to enjoy the Chinatown Firecracker Ceremony. It was a great way to start the Year of the Monkey!

McDonald’s New York Tri-State has participated as an official sponsor of four major Lunar New Year events in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. These include:

  • Chinatown New Year’s Day Firecracker Ceremony (Feb 8)
  • Flushing Lunar New Year Parade (Feb 13)
  • Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade (Feb 14)
  • Brooklyn Lantern Festival (Feb 28)

Ronald McDonald® will make appearances at each event and marching in the two parades alongside McDonald’s franchisees and employees on a customized float.

This year’s sponsorship of the Chinatown Firecracker Ceremony and Parade will mark the sixth year in a row that McDonald’s has participated at both events. The Flushing parade will be the Golden Arches’ third in a row.
