Meeting Taye Diggs at Mixed Me Event The Moms & Aeropostale

So my son met Taye Diggs. Again. This time they met during The MOMS #psMOMS #MixedMe event, where Taye Diggs and illustrator Shane W. Evans shared, read and signed their book Mixed Me.

Note: I was invited as media to this event. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

My son and I first learned about Mixed Me when we attended BookCon and loved the idea behind the book. So you can imagine my son's excitement to meet the two guys who made the Mixed Me book, and get his own personally signed copy.

Both Taye and Shane were amazing with the kids. They took time to chat with each of them and make them feel special. But I kinda feel my son got just a bit extra.

While standing there watching him and Shane make chit chat and with Taye do a "special" handshake, I thought what an amazing moment for my son.

Yes this is Taye Diggs actor and all that. But more important this is a black parent and a role model. Something I keep striving to show my son to counter the negative media coverage that's been so rampant lately.

More then that still, this is also a black parent of a biracial child, who was motivated to make something positive and encouraging for the mixed race community. The fact that my son has access to see and hear Taye and Shane talk about Mixed Me, is truly special.

But they weren't the only ones doing something special during the event. My son was able to donate one of his toys to Second Chance Toys, an organization aiming to keep plastic toys out of landfills by donating them to needy children at local community organizations.

Meanwhile I was busy getting a sneak peak at PS from Aeropostale's winter collection. Time to shop for winter wear and a few holiday gift ideas!

Thank you The MOMS and PS from Aeropostale for a touching event with Taye Diggs and Shane W. Evans!
