Ricki and The Flash Cast Interview: Meryl Streep, Rick Springfield & Mamie Gummer #RickiJunket #RickiandTheFlash
I was super excited to go to my first press junket for Ricki and The Flash film on Sunday at the swanky Ritz Carlton Central Park to see the imitable Meryl Streep, Rick Springfield, and Mamie Gummer.
Note: I was invited by Sony as media to the screening and press junket. No other compensation was received. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

Before heading to the press conference, courtesy of Sony, the media/press relaxed and prepared in a beautiful suite with catered breakfast/lunch, makeup and hair touch-ups overlooking the gorgeous views of Central Park .
While waiting in the meeting room for the talent panel to arrive, we all received a special celebrity treat - Rick Springfield came in early!
Rick was nice enough to take some time to chat, take pics and treat us with a little riffing on the guitar!
Finally, Meryl, Mamie and Rick sat down for a quick round of questions about the movie, the characters they portrayed, their career and life choices, and the music heard in Ricki and The Flash movie.
While we all know how talented Meryl Streep is, I am still impressed by the length she will go to play a real, believable character. Picking up a guitar and learning how to play, sing and perform like a rock star and play live on set vs. dubbing takes gumption and adds realism to the movie.
Did the cast have any say in the music choices in the movie and how did they feel about the music? Watch the video below to find out.
Rick Springfield was in definite awe of Ms. Streep and you can see the admiration and respect he has for her, fully aware of the huge opportunity it was for him to play a role against her in Ricki and the Flash.
Seriously, who would turn down the chance to duet with Meryl Streep?!
Mamie Gummer talks about growing up in her own spotlight and has she taught anything to her talented mom, Meryl Streep?
Definitely an interesting question about Meryl and Mamie's mother/daughter relationship - with someone as huge and experienced as Meryl Streep as your mom, can you teach something new to her? Can you be out of your own mother's spotlight as an individual actor? I think Mamie answers honestly and charmingly about teaching her mom the latest fashion/makeup/hair trends and being in her own spotlight.
The Q&A ended quickly as the talent had a tight schedule of interviews to promote Ricki and the Flash with other media outlets. I thought all 3 cast members were quite lovely, friendly and had a comfortable rapport.
Meryl Streep takes on a whole new gig – a hard-rocking singer/guitarist – for Oscar®-winning director Jonathan Demme and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody in Ricki and the Flash. In an original and electrifying film loaded with live musical performances, Streep stars as Ricki Rendazzo, a guitar heroine who made a world of mistakes as she followed her dreams of rock-and-roll stardom.
Returning home, Ricki gets a shot at redemption and a chance to make things right as she faces the music with her family. Streep stars opposite her real-life daughter Mamie Gummer; Rick Springfield, portraying a Flash member in love with Ricki; Kevin Kline as Ricki’s ex-husband; and Audra McDonald as Kline’s new wife.
Rating: PG-13 (for thematic material, brief drug content, sexuality and language)
