Cow Milking 101 - Wordless Wednesday

This week we visited the Prospect Park Zoo and received an interesting lesson....

learning how to milk a cow

.....how to milk a cow.

I wasn't sure my son would be OK with this lesson. After all when do we get a chance to see cows in New york City, much less reach under one for "milking". But he took to learning like a pro.

Not only did he learn milking well, he even impressed our real life farm friends including Gilmer Dairy. LOL

Should I start thinking of trading in city life for life on the farm?!

What did you or your child learn this week?

  6. My child (he's 2.5-years-old) just learned to eat his Cheerios with milk. :) So he didn't learn how to milk a cow, but he learned something milk-related!

  9. Oh gosh how fun! I would love to do that. We are considering milking goats when we move and get settled. Even though we are on 2 acres right now, we are on a busy road. Not safe for animals like that who tend to roam. For now, I'll stick to gardening! Chrystal @ YUMeating.com

  11. That is awesome and I have to say that Prospect Park Zoo is one of my favorites. I have pictures of my first 3 kids in the turtle in that zoo. My toddler has yet to make it to NY and when she does she has to go in that turtle. :) As for what she learned? Well she went to the zoo a few weeks ago and learned that giraffes loves lettuce leaves lol since we got to feed them. :)

  13. Wow! I never had the chance to milk a cow, but I would really like to see a person doing it and maybe, for curiosity's sake, I might want to try it myself. I admire your kid doing it for the first time. :)

  16. My child, the two boys, learned about breastfeeding this week. That was from the fact that they learned how puppies eat and in turn wanted to know who they ate as babies... sigh.

  17. I love this especially since I grew up in rural Wisconsin where everyone lived on a farm. It is great that city kids get to experience this.

  18. Very cool experience. I think my son would be skeptical. My daughter would likely hurt a cow. She can be a little... rough! That little girl doesn't know her own strength.
