Sailing with Mommy Poppins & Manhattan by Sail #FamilySails

Have you ever taken your family sailing? I found out recently that sailing can be a great family activity. I was invited by Mommy Poppins and Manhattan by Sail's to spend the morning aboard the Clipper City Tall Ship for the start of their Family Cruise Series.

Note: I was invited as media to this event. No other compensation was received. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

The Family Cruise Series takes families sailing around the New York City harbor for 75 minutes and include face painting and family friend activities. Each sailing outing is different with its own fun sailing theme. My son and I went on the Stories & Songs of the Sea sail and enjoyed it!

Getting tickets are super easy since there's a Clipper City booth right in the front of the South Street Seaport. Then it's a short walk around to the dock where Manhattan by Sail's replica Civil War-era cargo schooner Clipper City waits to take families on their water journey.

Once on boat, we received a PBS Kids Club THIRTEEN activity booklet to capture some of the activities and landmarks we saw during the sail.

We then heard from the captain, who welcomes us to the ship, told us where we'd be sailing and shared a few ship rules and information. Then it was time to set off!

While the captain steered the boat, we went to the face painting area where my son requested a rainbow fish for his arm. Considering we were on a sail boat, his fish was a great choice.

After getting his "tattoo" fish, my son sat and enjoyed listening to Bill Gordh "Tales of the Sea" which were fun songs that entertained and amused the kids. Many of the parents also sat and enjoyed listening. I sure did!

After enjoying so many activities it was time to sit back and enjoy some of the sites as we sailed along.

During our sail we even saw Statue of Liberty.

We also took some time to tour around the ship and "help" the crew, who did a lot to make sure the ship sailed smoothly.

All too soon, our sail ended and it was time to head back to land. But we had a great morning and recommend taking a family sail. There's more upcoming Mommy Poppins Family Sails in the next few weeks, make sure to get your tickets!
