Shipwreck! Pirates & Treasure Exhibit at Discovery Times Square

We were recently invited to "travel beneath the surface and explore SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure, an interactive multi-media exhibit containing more than 500 artifacts from deep-ocean expeditions around the world" at New York City's Discovery Times Square.

I was invited as media to this event and received a gift bag. No other compensation was received. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

The exhibit is ideal for visitors of all ages and over, my 3 year old and 1 year old had a great time plus I am sure they learned a thing or two. We looked at rare bottles, porcelain figurines and of course treasures of gold & silver that were recovered from the SS Republic, SS Gairsoppa, WWII U-boats.

Most of the artifacts were recovered by the Odyssey Marine Exploration, INC which uses innovative methods and state-of-the-art technology including ZEUS (a remotely operated robotic arm).

There were also a number of virtual and interactive features including: a create your own pirate game, an opportunity to virtually pilot a submersible over a wreck site and scour for artifacts using a robotic arm and there was even a Hurricane Simulator where guests could experience winds up to 75+ mph.

And of course the was also a section filled with tales of historical pirates: Blackbeard, Captain Kidd, Barbary Corsairs and Mary Read & Anne Bonny. The exhibit will be featured through the end of December, so start planning your trip back in time to explore shipwrecks, pirates & treasure.
