Thanks to this blog, I've had many amazing opportunities but it's not usually that I get a chance to meet to a U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist! But this week I had the chance to meet history making Gabrielle Douglas during the launch event for McDonald’s new Egg White Delight McMuffin.
While it's always yummy news when a new item is added to the McDonald’s menu, this time the event was extra exciting since I had a chance to see and hear first hand from Gabrielle Douglas herself.
During the event Gabrielle join in during a cooking demonstration with McDonald’s Chef Jessica Foust, RD to show us how the new Egg White Delight McMuffin are made. She even flipped the egg whites onto her McMuffin before taking a bite.
Then Gabrielle shared some about why she partnered with McDonald's to launch the Egg White Delight McMuffin (they are a great option when your traveling and counting calories), her favorite fruits and vegetables and her healthy tips for young women who are struggling with weight loss. Why such a big deal about McDonald’s New Egg White Delight McMuffin?
Well first it's the newest breakfast sandwich to be added to the menu in years. The last new breakfast sandwich was the McGriddles about 10 years ago. Can you believe that?!
But also the Egg White Delight McMuffin supports McDonald’s “Commitments to Offer Improved Nutrition Choices,” announced in 2011.
The new muffin delivers 8 grams of whole grain and the Canadian bacon delivers quality protein, helping customers incorporate foods from some of the USDA’s MyPlate recommended food groups. At 250 calories, the Egg White Delight McMuffin is McDonald’s newest wholesome breakfast choice under 300 calories in addition to Egg McMuffin, Fruit & Maple Oatmeal and Fruit N’ Yogurt Parfait.
Also with the new option of grilled egg whites, McDonald’s customers can now enjoy their favorite breakfast sandwiches with a combination of egg whites and white cheddar. You can swap out the current egg option to the the freshly grilled 100% egg whites. This gives you more options to eat healthy breakfast sandwich at McDonald's.
I found this option VERY interesting and spoke with a McDonald's representative about why McDonald's is moving in a direction to offer all these healthy options to their customers. It was shared the McDonald's does listen to needs and concerns of their customers and strives to provide meal products to match.
While McDonald's is considered fast food that doesn't mean they don't have options for those counting calories or seeking meals that fit into a health conscious lifestyle.
To that I have to say to McDonald's that "I'm Lovin It!"
