A while back I attended a media breakfast for the introduction of Abreva Conceal, a new cold sore concealer that keeps cold sores hidden and protected while they heal.

The Abreva Conceal is a non-medicated, clear patch that covers cold sores. The patch allows makeup to be put on top and uses MicroAir technology, which creates a protective barrier allowing air in while keeping harmful contaminants out.

During the event I went through the process of applying the patch. It's really light weight, simple to use and can match any skintone.

As I tried out the Abreva Conceal, Carmindy, makeup artist and expert on TLC’s hit show “What Not to Wear” discussed how cold sores affect literally millions of women lives in a variety of ways – including work, parenting and intimacy.

“Cold sores are more than just a health or beauty issue; they’re a confidence issue,” said Carmindy, a professional makeup artist. “I’ve done makeup for so many different women – from models, to moms, to young professionals, and I’ve seen how a cold sore can ruin a woman’s day and seriously derail her confidence and self-esteem. I’ve also never had the right product to cover them until now; Abreva Conceal provides a simple solution.”

Recent survey results by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare revealed that women feel self-conscious (86 percent), unattractive (77 percent) and embarrassed (72 percent) with a cold sore. Nine in ten parents have avoided kissing their child because of a cold sore and 40% have also avoided interacting with other parents because of their cold sores.
