Rise of the Guardians Movie Review & Wii Video Game

For a few weeks now I've been posting about the Rise of the Guardians video game, which I've had a chance to play and think is pretty awesome. I like the style of the game which allows for drop-in-and-out multiplayer and team work skills. Plus the game has pretty cool graphics.

Note: I attended an early movie screening. Views expressed are always 100% my own.

So when I was invite to a screening for the Rise of the Guardians Movie, I was excited to see if that characters in the movie were just as cool and how the storyline was fully developed. The video game is based on the story of the Guardians trying to stop the bad guy “Pitch” and his nightmares (which are really horse shaped)

So how was the movie? AMAZING!

The movie starts with how Jack Frost (voiced by Chris Pine) received his powers, takes us into him deciding if he wants to join a Guardians of Childhood: Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher), and the Sandman and ultimately how he's carefree view of life helps the child defeat the bad guy Pitch Black (Jude Law) and saves the day.

I know it sounds like a simple story but the story telling is wonderful and the 3D imagery of the movie is on a new superb level. And the characters... The fact that Santa has naughty and nice tattoos should give you a hint. These fairytale characters are a seriously updated version of our childhood favorites. Trust me. You'll love them!

I do have to caution that some parts (the nightmare scenes) might be a bit scary for young children so be prepared to cover eyes or distract at those part. But overall the movie will leave you and your child with wonderment, a smile and a new belief in the guardians.

So how does the movie stand up against the video game? I am pleased to say it stands up very well. Children who saw the movie will definitely enjoy playing the game. Of course the video game can stand on it's own with the story telling, but the movie tie-in is a bonus.
