July 4th Water Dance at Harlem Children’s Parade

This week has been insanely hot so I didn't want to celebrate 4th of July running around outside visiting friends and family. We love our friends and family but not when it's 90 degrees outside.

Instead I decided to have a little fun by attending the 17th Annual July 4th Harlem Children's Parade since it was in our local neighborhood and family friendly. A major plus was that it ended with a fire truck spraying cool water for the kids!

During the parade families followed the fire truck along it's mini route until it looped it's way back. While waiting for the fire truck to return, I noticed that the MC for the parade was Vincent Morgan, who I interviewed when he was a Congressional Candidate. Small Harlem World.

Once the firetruck was back, the families gathered around and waited for the water works. It wasn't a long wait. Soon the water was being sprayed over the crowd. At first my son wasn't sure he wanted to join in. He soon changed his mind after seeing all the fun the other kids were having.

He joined in and began what I thought was a sort of rain dance. It was fun to watch him hop and kick around in the water works. I'd say that was a good way to start the day.

What did your family do to celebrate 4th of July?
