AllerMates Wristband & Lunch Box Alert About Child's Food Allergies Review

Planning for back to school can be frustrating when you have a child with a food allergy. Recently, when my son started attending a new school, I meet with the school nurse and the class teachers to discuss his reaction to apples and peaches. They made a note of it in his chart and in this class but still I'm worried.

Mistakes have happened and my son was given fruit he's allergic to. I spent the next few hours watching him for a reaction in case I needed to dash to the emergency room. No parent likes to go through that. To help prevent moments like that I like to find products that give a visual reminder of my son's (and other children's) food allergies.

AllerMates

Recently, I learned about AllerMates, a new line of kid friendly whimsical character-driven wristbands, dog tags and lunch boxes. I like that AllerMates was designed to fit a child's school lifestyle (there's a lunchbox) but also send a clear message (and reminder) of a food allergy.

The AllerMates wristbands is child size, adjustable and hypo-allergenic, nickel and latex free. The cute character on the band is something a child won't feel uncomfortable about wearing so they (hopefully) wont take the band off.

The AllerMates lunch bag is also designed in a way to alert about food allergies with a side area to mark off what foods the child can't have. This is a great way for teachers and other kids to know a child can't eat a certain food. The lunch box is a great size for non allergic foods so your child can enjoy their lunch!

Parents of children with allergies can now enjoy the safety and security of knowing their young ones are better protected against unwanted allergens in places like school, daycare, parties, sleep-overs, etc

AllerMates

AllerMates products are based on 14 original characters that represent the most common allergies: peanut, nut, gluten/wheat, milk, egg, shellfish, penicillin, insect sting, latex, pollen, fish, soy, sesame and cat. The characters and product line was created by Iris Shamus, Founder and CEO of AllerMates, in part to help kids feel positive about their allergies.

Sadly the AllerMates Gang characters doesn't include an apple/fruit but they're still all adorable:
  • P. Nutty (Peanut Allergy)
  • Nutso (Nut Allergy)
  • Professor Wheatley (Gluten / Wheat Allergy)
  • Pint (Milk Allergy)
  • Eggie (Egg Allergy)
  • Crabby (Shellfish Allergy)
  • Super-Cillin (Penicillin Allergy)
  • Bizzy (Insect Sting Allergy)
  • Dr. Strangeglove (Latex Allergy)
  • Drift (Pollen Allergy)
  • Detective Fin (Fish Allergy)
  • Soy Cool (Soy Allergy)
