VIP Tour of Obstacle Course for Monster Jam "Path of Destruction" Show

This weekend my uncle joined me and my son as we headed to Baltimore, MD for a VIP peek at The Monster Jam "Path of Destruction" Tour. Right after arriving on Amtrak, we headed to the hotel, quickly grabbed lunch and met our group.

After arriving at the M&T Bank Stadium, we suited up in bright orange safety vests and then meetup with a crew member who lead us on a tour over the obstacle course

During the tour we learned that getting the various venue ready for a Monster Jam event takes a lot of serious work. Before anything happens on the field a team of engineers, drivers and others plan out the course and path. This process happens months in advance to not only plan a good show but also make sure of safety.

Then the construction team comes inn and work for three days to get an entire course ready. They have to bring in and set up plastic covers and plywood to cover and protect any grass, banners to dress up the track area, and paint logos/company designs on the tracks and obstacles. Then they haul in nearly 5000 tons of special dirt that the trucks will drive on. Then they haul in the vans and cars to be crushed. And that's just the start! There's the work happening during the show AND then after the show. Whew!

During the tour over the obstacle course, we learned some other fun facts like
  • The paint they use are eco friendly and easy to remove from the venue after they leave. They conscious about the environment!
  • The cars for the obstacle course come from local area car dealers and junkyards. After the show the cars are returned nice and crushed and the car dealers and junkyards can recycle and earn a nice profit. Win win for everyone!
  • The construction team can travel, prep for shows and breakdown really quickly since many venues can have a football, etc show the next night!

To end our tour we had a chance to see the Hot Seat that drivers sit in when they're leading in the races. You can't tell but this seat is HUGE. I put my son to sit in it and he looked so tiny. So my uncle and I joined him. LOL. It was an amazing feeling to sit there and know later tonight the star drivers will sit there also!

On our way out the obstacle course I was amazed how BIG and TALL everything really is. Sitting in the stands you don't really realize how truly large the course and obstacles are. The dirt dunes that the car jump over are humungous. I have a new respect for the drivers who have to maneuver cars over these obstacle PLUS do all those tricks and jumps. Really amazing.

Next post will be about the Pit Party and then the Path of Destruction Show.

If your in the New York TriState area Monster Jam "Path of Destruction" Show will come to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ where ten-time Monster Jam World Finals Champion Maximum Destruction and driver Tom Meents, will attempt, for the very first time, to complete a double back flip!
