Soap Opera Festival at Bally's Atlantic City #soapoperafest

During a weekend in Atlantic City, I was able to participate in Soap Opera Weekend with The Young and Restless cast. I have been watching soaps since I was a kid, so this was very exciting. The cast members included Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Greg Rikaart, and Michael Muhney. People traveled from all over to attend the events.

I attended an interview with Michael Muhney who plays Adam Newman on the show. The best way to describe his interview was interesting. He’s very passionate about his craft, so we could respect him for his dedication to his work. I learned that he works closely with the writers to make sure the writing is true to his character.

My favorite line was when he told us “he breaks balls to get what he wants.” But when he was asked some juicy questions like who is the best kisser on the show, he politely declined to answer. He was very appreciative of his fans being there and offered to stay longer and answer everyone’s question.

The next event was a Q&A with the rest of the cast and a wine tasting. The Q&A was fun learning more about the cast members. Stephen Nichols is very crafty painting and building things while Michelle Stafford is very dedicated to her daughter.

Michael Muheny got an “aww” from the audience when he told us he keeps a journal about his kids and is going to give it to them when they go to college. Greg Rikaart told us he was single so that definitely got a few squeals in the audience. Once the cast left, we were able to enjoy a wide selection of wines and cheeses.

The last event of the evening was a concert with the band “Port Chuck.” It’s a band formed by four cast members from General Hospital - Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), Brandon Barash, (Johnny Zacchara), Bradford Anderson (Damien Spinelli) and Scott Reeves (Dr. Steve Webber).

I was especially excited because General Hospital is the soap that I’ve been watching for 20 years. They did not disappoint – they rocked the house! It was one of the most energetic and fun concerts I’ve been too, not to mention the best eye candy. The crowd of 40+ something women were screaming for these guys. The crowd was thoroughly enjoying their renditions of “Jesse’s Girl” and “Don’t Stop Believing.”

The next morning we went to the brunch with the cast. Greg Rikaart who plays Kevin Fisher on the show asked if anyone had seen “The Hunger Games” so when I had a chance to speak with him, we talked about the book and how he was really looking forward to taking his nephews to see the movie and watch how the futurist society would come to life on the big screen.

I appreciated the conversation because I didn’t have to tell him how amazing he is on the show but instead had a nice conversation about a fun topic where I got to learn about how he thinks. He seemed like a nice, down- to-earth person to me which was refreshing.

Soap Opera weekend was a blast, and I would love to go every year!
