Little Miss Muffet's Monster Sitting Service Review

Last year I reviewed Three Bears Holiday Bash Puppet Show at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park and enjoyed the show. It was my first time seeing a story being told with a puppet show. When I received the offer to review this year's new show, Little Miss Muffet's Monster-Sitting Service, I was excited to see how the classic story would be retold using puppets.

About
Little Miss Muffet's Monster-Sitting Service tells the story of Molly Muffet (the great-great-great-great granddaughter of the original, "Little Miss Muffet") and what happens when she ends up home alone while her parents leave for a high school reunion. Molly's grandfather is called in to babysit but gets stranded by a snowstorm in Alaska.

As a last resort, grandfather calls in an old family friend, Aloisius Albrecht Alviss Spider (Al for short), the original spider from the famed nursery rhyme. Molly and Al quickly become friends and hatch a plan to start a baby-sitting service for baby monsters while her parents are away.

As the night progresses and baby monsters get dropped off, Molly, Al and the babies hunker down for what promises to be a long night filled with music, song, dance and numerous surprises.

My Review

I wasn't really sure how the idea of a being sitting service would be tied into the classic story. For the most part I was prepared for a cute story of a girl and her spider. Imagine my surprise when a giant spider appeared on stage. But while AL was a giant spider he wasn't scary or a monster. He also wasn't the only surprise I received while watching the show.

I was surprised to see Dinosaurs, a mother and a baby who came to use Molly services.

A genius monkey with plans to take over the world. He also had an adorable little robot side kick

And the last surprise of the afternoon. A robot fighting an alien planet for the fate of the planet. Wow!

How did all these things fit into the story? Well that's the fun part. How Molly goes from just having a baby sitting service to being in a robot suit saving the world, is told in a completely original, fun and child friendly way. The songs interludes are also enjoyable. One of them had a jazz beat! The puppets dance, sing and even play dress up. *laughing*

My son LOVED IT. He was excited to see so many things happening live in the story. I have to admit I was just as excited as he was. The puppets are made with amazing detailing.

After the show a puppeteer came out and demonstrated how the (puppets) are controlled and made to move. Then the other puppeteers came out to take a bow and thanks the kids for coming..

If your looking for something fun to do with children ages 3-12, I highly recommend taking them to see Little Miss Muffet's Monster Sitting Service
