Study Shows Mothers & Others Trust Glass Packaging More

There's been along debate over what type of packaging, glass, plastic, organic and natural, etc, consumers should use. I recently learned that Owens-Illinois (O-I), the world’s largest glass container maker for major brands like New York-based PepsiCo, as well as Coca-Cola, Heinz, MillerCoors and Welch’s, recently released a trend report showing consumer preference for glass as the best food and beverage packaging material.

Sixty-nine (69) percent of consumers say that if they could choose to buy their favorite foods or beverages in any type of container, they would choose glass. The report, partly shown here, includes data from a recent Omnibus survey.

• Ninety (90) percent say they agree that glass is the healthiest packaging because it doesn’t leach into the product.
• Eighty-five (85) percent say food and beverages taste better in glass.

Disney's Friends for Change Game

Disney will donate nearly $1 million dollars globally through Disney's Friends for Change, its multiplatform pro-social initiative, and the new "Disney Friends for Change Games" that helps kids help the planet and their communities.

Over 30 Disney Channel and Disney XD stars from around the globe will compete in "Disney Friends for Change Games," a series of fun physical challenges inspired by everyday "green" acts. Four teams will play on behalf of a global charity -- Fauna and Flora International, World Wildlife Fund, Ocean Conservancy and UNICEF.

For five weeks that started on Friday, June 24, Disney Channel will present "Disney Friends for Change Games" in interstitials during its Friday, Saturday and Sunday primetime original series programming, and Disney XD will present a special episode from the games Monday nights that started June 27. The Games will culminate with a special half-hour episode SUNDAY, JULY 31 on Disney Channel.

Sony & Intel's Project Shiphunt Team Explores Shipwreck Alley

Sony and Intel have released the first of two films highlighting Project Shiphunt. The new film Shipwreck Alley introduces the team, five ambitious students from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Michigan, and Dr. James Delgado, world-renowned nautical archaeologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Their objective is to hunt for a sunken ship in the waters of Lake Huron's Shipwreck Alley, investigate its identity, and document it in 3D video for future generations.

Shipwreck Alley / Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary:
Located in northwestern Lake Huron, Thunder Bay is adjacent to one of the most treacherous stretches of water within the Great Lakes system. Unpredictable weather, murky fog banks, sudden gales, and rocky shoals earned the area the name "Shipwreck Alley." Today, the 448-square-mile Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary protects one of America's best-preserved and nationally-significant collections of shipwrecks. Fire, ice, collisions, and storms have claimed over 200 vessels in and around Thunder Bay. To date, more than 50 shipwrecks have been discovered within the sanctuary. http://thunderbay.noaa.gov/

Film Releases:
To chart the progress of the team, two short web films will be produced and released during the project (June 20 and July 13), while a TV documentary is also being produced. The first short film “Shipwreck Alley” profiles the team and provides an overview of the challenge, while the second video will report on their eventual findings. The TV documentary is currently in production, with plans to air in late summer.

Oceans of Treasure $1 Million Google Earth game:
Aligned with the actual Shipwreck Alley hunt, Sony and Intel also introduced Oceans of Treasure, one of the first ever games created in Google Earth. The game, which is currently live on https://apps.facebook.com/projectshiphunt, gives players the chance to win real prizes without leaving their laptop – including a $1 million grand prize. The game is available online until July 1 or when all 20 treasure chests have been claimed.

Bronx Zoo Great Summer Zoofari – A LEGO Wildlife Expedition

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo is taking visitors on a conservation journey this summer as The Great Summer Zoofari – A LEGO® Wildlife Expedition brings amazing LEGO wildlife sculptures to the zoo to meet their real-life counterparts.

LEGO Master Builders have created a safari of LEGO block wildlife sculptures that will be on display throughout WCS’s Bronx Zoo. Visitors will be able to journey through the park with their complimentary Zoofari passport and enjoy all of the LEGO creations including a tiger, Chilean flamingos, a gorilla mother and child, penguins, a giraffe, and Khansi spray toads while learning about the real animals and WCS’s work to save wildlife and wild places around the globe.

Each guest will be given a Zoofari passport to help them plot their adventure through the zoo and guide them to each of the LEGO displays. Participants can stamp their passport at each of the six stations located throughout the park.

There will be a Build Zone construction area and interactive activities where visitors will be able to construct their own LEGO wildlife sculptures and take part in the construction of a mystery mural. Guests can work with LEGO Certified Professionals on one weekend each month of the program.

Wildlife Theater shows, crafts and activities with the Museum for African Art, and conservation learning stations will keep the whole family busy.

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Adult admission is $16, children (3-12 years old) $12, children under 3 are free, seniors (65+) are $14.

Disney Pixar Cars 2 Larry the Cable Guy Interview

Recently in celebration of CARS 2, Larry the Cable Guy came to New York City for some NY Mom Blogger time! I was so excited to meet Larry the Cable Guy, who is the voice of Mater in the Cars and Cars 2 movies.

During the press conference I had the chance to ask Larry all my burning questions about the Cars 2 movie that was will released on June 24, 2011, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters.

My 1 question to Larry was about his children's reaction to him starring in the Cars 2 Movie. Watch the video to hear his answers

As you can tell from the videos Larry the Cable Guy was down to earth and easy going. The interviewed actually last much longer then what's seen in my videos. I learned a lot about Larry as a husband, as a father and as an American. One thing Larry feels strongly about it tolerance and friendship. He shared that there's alot of him in the Mater character. Even thought he's a well know star Larry still is so humble and open to meeting all different types of people.

It's this same openness about people and life that Larry brings to the Cars 2 movie as Mater. I can't wait to see it!

But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Aviator Sports & Event Center Tour & Tickets Giveaway

As we get more into summer time, parents are looking for fun places to take their kids. Recently an offer to tour the Aviator Sports & Event Center in Brooklyn came my way so I could learn more about the center and it's summer activities.

The tour promised to be a fun-filled day that would include; ice skating, rock climbing, gymnastics, a performance by the Silly Dilly Band and more. So I headed into Brooklyn, met my sister, exchanged my son for my niece and off we went to the Aviator Sports & Event Center.

Before the tour started the kids enjoyed a Silly Dilly Band concert. The kids danced around the stage and even bounced the balls that were being tossed around during one song.

After that it was time for the tour that showed all that the Aviator Sports & Event Center has to offer. During my tour I learned that the center is 170,000 square feet of total indoor events, athletics, and recreation space for individuals, families, and groups.

The indoor activities included rock climbing, a video arcade, 2 ice skating rinks, basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc and an adult fitness gym where parents can work out while waiting for their kids.

After the tour we were able to enjoy the activities. My niece was excited to try everything out.

At Gymnastics she swung, jumped and tumbled, while I learned that Aviator has many different types of Gymnastics class that include.

• Mommy and Me Classes (Ages Walking-36 months) – 50 min. Combines the use of circuits and group play to teach skills in a fun, safe and interactive way.
• Pre-School Classes (Ages 3-5 years) – 60 min. Introduction to Olympic events in a fun and safe manner.
• Beginning Girls and Boys Gymnastics Classes (Ages 6-17+) – 60 min. Introduction to the beginning level of gymnastics. Girls will learn introductory skills on the floor, beam, vault and bars. The boys will use the floor, pommel horse, single bar, vault, parallel bars and rings. Trampolines are used to enhance skills.
  

After Gymnastics we went ice skating

Aviator has public skating where you can bring your own skates or rent from them. Open 7 days a week, this offers you a chance to experience year-round fun on New York City’s only twin NHL size ice rinks.

Can't skate? No worries, Aviator also has a Learn to Skate Program, where the goals are to provide a safe learning environment, teach techniques that allow the skater to advance, to have fun and enjoy skating!

Then it was time to go Rock Climbing!

The “Aviator Rock” is 35 feet high, and it's among the tallest indoor rock climbing walls in NYC and another “Best of Brooklyn” for Aviator. Once my niece was buckled up, she received basic instructions and off she went. I was very proud to see her make it to the top.

This was just some of the activities we snuck in while at the Aviator Center. There's was still lots more activities to be done and seen like their indoor pool. They have 2! One for adults and one for children. Perfect place to hang out when the summer heat wave starts.

They also have Summer Camp programs for children ages 3-15 that can include theater class, circus or dance camp, swim lessons and more. Aviator Center also has a Children’s Center where younger children can hang out while the older children are off doing other activities. Cost is only $4 an hour!
